Synetrix:Web Hosting Issues and Front Page

Posted by Andrew Ferrier on May 6th, 2008

Hi sole viewer…

Schools  editing their Synetrix Web Host area have reported access problems  using with Front Page Extensions. Problems includes issues with remote access, with schools receiving an access error message. This has resulted in schools being unable to access and maintain their web sites unless they revert to uploading their changes via ftp which can be time consuming and frustrating.

The solution?

Use Dreamweaver instead! Dreamweaver cuts through all the problems associated with Front Page and Synetrix. The Remote access feature is much more stable and reliable.

Latest Report regarding Web Mail

23/04/2008 17:48:23 - EMH

Following advice from our storage platform vendor, work was completed on the evening of 22nd April to speed up disk throughput on the EMH systems.  These changes did not show any immediate effect this morning, however we are now seeing throughput increases as the changes take effect on new data written to disk.

We are also now adding additional I/O capacity, which will further improve the performance of webmail and email delivery

LGFL London Technician’s Conference 17th March 2008

Posted by Andrew Ferrier on Feb 28th, 2008

Message from Brian Durrant (LGFL Director)

Following the success of this event in earlier years, the London ICT Technicians’ Conference is this year being held in two sittings, morning and afternoon.  The very comfortable seats at the high-tech Auditorium within the BT national HQ are being quickly taken up, but as yet about 100 seats remain

The programme which is aimed at school network managers and details of venue and how to book are attached.  In previous years this event has been greatly appreciated and the preparations for this year will not disappoint.
We are particularly grateful to Penny Patterson and members of L2ICT Environment Group for all the thought and preparation they have put into arranging this conference.

We are also grateful to Atomwide which has agreed to sponsor the lunch for both the morning and afternoon conferences.

We look forward to seeing many of you there.Click here to download the program

ICT and the Foundation Stage Curriculum

Posted by Andrew Ferrier on Feb 8th, 2008

I had a great day yesterday working with Foundation Stage teachers participating in a workshop set up by colleague Liz Laws.  I also learnt that there were some great web sites supporting the delivery of ICT for the Foundation Stage Curriculum and I have reproduced them here (Thanks Liz for the links!!). Along with the LGFL Foundation Stage  site you could add these ones as well

1. The Dudley Early Years and Childcare partnership have a wealth of really good links worth exploring. Click the link below

http://www.edu.dudley.gov.uk/foundation/

2. The Sir Robert Hitchams School set up this site with a wealth of links and resources. The site has a search feature to allow you to find the resources you need.

The Kent NGFL has a great site for busy Foundation Stage teachers.

If you have any other useful web sites please add them in the comments area.

ICT Resource Hours on Teacher TV

Posted by Andrew Ferrier on Oct 26th, 2007

Every Thursday, throughout October, November and most of December, Teachers TV is dedicating two two-hour slots to ICT. Programmes will highlight the wide variety of ICT options that are available for the classroom, demonstrate the different ways that it is being used effectively across a wide range of subjects, and show the benefits that school-wide ICT initiatives can bring.

Next week there will be (Thurs 2nd Nov repeated from 17:00):

09:00 Resource Review - ICT Special: Primary Maths 2
09:15 DIY Whiteboard - Beats and Rhythm
09:30 School Matters - Hi Tech Transition
10:00 Secondary ICT - Money for ICT: Find It
10:15 Secondary ICT - Money for ICT: Spend It
10:30 School Matters - The Games Children Play

Strangely, if you browse for “ICT” in the subjects menu, most of these programmes do not show up.
