Synetrix Issues with WebMail

Posted by Andrew Ferrier on Sep 24th, 2007

Synetrix had carried out a major upgrade last Thursday 20th September which has has the unfortunate effect of throwing Bromley Schools off the webmail system.

I have spoken to Synetrix this morning and they assure me that they are working to resolve the problem ASAP. They also tell me that they have left instructions for schools to retest their email systems. These instructions are available at the schools talk2synetrix.com accounts.

For those of you who haven’t visited the site here are the instructions below:

Some trouble shooting advice that schools could do to help Synetrix diagnose the fault. Some sites are advising after following steps 1&2 webmail is accessible.

Schools will need to browse to webmail.domainename to enter their email.

1.) Ensure schools are not using a short cut to webmail as thge platform has been upgraded and will no longer work.

2.) Ensure schools are not using favourites to get to webmail.3) Hold Ctrl and F5 to clear cache and cookies
Does webmail work?

4) Reboot system
Does webmail work?

5) Open command prompt, type: ipconfig /flushdns
Does webmail work?

6) Within command prompt, ping webmail.schools domain name (what response are you getting?)

If you are still having problems please let me know via the blog

SIMS.net database engine change

Posted by Andrew Ferrier on Jul 25th, 2007

1.1 Capita have advised us that there will be a new operating engine for the SIMS.net databases. This means that the current existing engine in operation will need to be upgraded.

1.2 It is important that this upgrade takes place as Microsoft support for the current operating engine will cease.

1.3. Schools will be expected to carry out the upgrade procedures.

1.4 The upgrade needs to be completed after you have completed the August Main Release but before the November Main Release 2007.

What happens next?

Your technical service provider (Capita, EIS) will provide you with a set of clear instructions to enable you to carry out the upgrade successfully. If you haven’t received your set of instructions please contact your service provider immediately.

LGFL Updates and problems logging in

Posted by Andrew Ferrier on May 1st, 2007

Hi folks

I gather that some head teachers and office administrators have been having problems logging into the LGFL since the new page update. This problem has been picked up by the LGFL and they have put in a temporary fix.

Look for the ‘Logging in with an LGFL/Atomwide USO account?’ on the right hand side  of the LGFL screen.
