Primary ICT Subject Leaders Meeting Minutes

Posted by Andrew Ferrier on Nov 1st, 2007

We had a great meeting today at the EDC.

Special thanks to our speakers, Richard Allen from Becta and Mick Thomas from Biggin Hill Junior School.

Richard provided a comprehensive outline of the issues affecting schools in planning a successful procurement program. Procurement will become more important as schools try to maintain and future prooof their ICT investment. Richard also provided some links to the Becta Web site where resources are available to assist schools in this process. I have enclosed a copy of his presentation along with a copy of the spreadsheet planner .

Mick Thomas led an inspiring session outlining the exciting possibilities offered by Google Sketchup in the classroom. He presented examples of children’s work and demonstrated how the program can be used to create exciting lesson activities especially in the area of Maths and Design Technology.

Delegates worked in teams to try their hand with Google Sketchup. Some of their work can be seen below (You will need to have a copy of Google Sketchup installed on your computer if you wish to view these designs)

We cannot acknowledge any personal work…. but the authors know who they are!!!

A copy of the Sketch Up tutorial along with the Quick Reference Card is available.

Suggested items for the next meeting included

  • Locating resources on the LGFL site
  • Schemes of Work- Software for units of Work
  • Control Technology
