Bromley CDEC Video Conferencing Project
CDEC have proposed a partnership project with Bromley to enhance the quality of teaching and learning through the application of Video Conferencing in schools.
What does it involve?
The project involves schools undertaking a collaborative curriculum project requiring them to link with other schools and experts around the world using Video conferencing units that would be supplied on loan by CDEC along with technical and curriculum support for a limited six week period. Participating schools would, in return, be expected to maintain a journal recording their experiences and the impact upon the students
The VC projects planned include
1. Write On Bromley
Developing and enhancing creative writing skills for Year 5/6 children, mentored by a leading children’s author. The children use VC facilities to communicate and share ideas directly with the author as well as creating and sharing stories with their partnered school
2. Endangered Species
Children use VC facilities to carry out cross curriculum activities focussing on endangered animals.
Possible Participants
Initially we would like to offer the project to a small number of schools to ‘road test’ its effectiveness
Costs
The initial cost for each school participating in the project is £750.
This includes:
- a fee of £250 per term payable to CDEC for the loan of the equipment for the duration of the project along with the necessary technical and curriculum support. If the school wishes to buy the Video Conferencing device after the trial, then the fee would be deducted from the price.
- a fee of £450 to pay Synetrix to set up an ‘open link’ to attach the equipment. The provided ‘open link’ would be maintained for a period of 3 years which would make it more cost effective then the current £200 charge for 12 month open link and would ensure any future projects work from a sustained base
