Southborough calling China

As  parents, when we ask that age old question of our children ‘What did you do at school today?’,  how often do we get the reply ‘not much’ or ‘nothing?’ How surprised would we be if they replied ‘Well, actually, we talked to another class of students in China..”

That’s exactly the reply that Ben Beal’s class at Southborough will be giving their parents last night after a successful Video Conference link yesterday.

The video conference link took place today from 11 to 12 am (6 -7pm Beijing time) between Southborough  Primary School and St Lorraine-Anglo-Chinese School located in Changping, a small county in the Quandong province of China.

Both classes of students had  a unique opportunity  to learn about each other’s culture  by sharing stories, music and games along with interests such as sports and pop music.  They also had the opportunity to question each other as well.  And despite the fact that they were in different countries,  they had many things in common (including a questionable taste for Robbie Williams!!!)  They also learnt that schools overseas were not that all that  different. It was great to see how engaged both classes were across the globe!

The success of this conference was down to the hard work, that Ben Beal and Mandy Fathers (with the active support from Head Teacher Doreen Fellingham)  at Southborough alomg with Chun Bong and his staff and pupils at St Lorraine School, put into the planning. Congratulations to all involved!

For other Bromley primary schools interested in learning more about the potential of Video Conferencing, please feel free to contact Southborough Primary for more information
